Scottish Golf Courses - Scotland's Golfing Regions
The beauty of coming to play golf in Scotland is that you will experience golf as it is supposed to be
played - the natural environment, climate and topography of Scotland has made golf what it is today.
There is nothing artificial about Scottish golf courses - you will experience the best quality greens,
well-maintained fairways and meet with people who are as passionate about the game as you are.
Scotland can boast some of the best golf courses in the world from links to parkland, 18-hole
championship giants to wonderful 9-hole charmers that you will fall in love with. the six golfing
regions of Scotland - Highlands, NorthEast, Historic Heartland, SouthEast, SouthWest and Central.

In the Highlands, Royal Dornoch and Nairn have hosted major championships, including the Walker
Cup and Amateur Championships. Inverness has a park-like feel, and Fortrose and Rosemarkie sits
by the seashore. Durness is the most northern of the mainland courses (there are some courses on
the islands off Scotland).
Northeast Scotland has the historic Royal Aberdeen, one of the great old championship courses. Golf
in the Central region combines golf with culture and history. This region has the Glasgow Green,
Killermont, and Haggs Castle. Southeast Scotland has the ancient Old Musselburgh, which is
accepted as the oldest course in the world, and Murfield, home to many Open Championships. In the
Southwest, Prestwick was the original home of championship-level golf. Royal Troon was the location
for the 2004 Open.

The Historic Heartland is the location of what may be the most famous golf course in Europe and one
of the most famous in the world: St. Andrews. St. Andrews is considered the "home of golf," and the
Old Course is a Mecca for golfers around the world. But the area is home to Scotland's other premier
courses Carnoustie and Gleneagles. The Heartland is home to a total of 100 courses
