Sample Golf Itinerary

Sunday
Kingston -on -Thames - Hampton Court Palace: Meet the Captain at The Stafford Hotel at 3pm for
afternoon English Cream Tea, before being transferred to the Magna Carta at 4pm. Champagne
reception and welcome by the Captain. Early evening cruise to Hampton Court Palace, former Tudor
Palace of Henry VIII, where we moor for the night. Dinner aboard
Monday
Hampton Court Palace - Shepperton: This morning we leave the barge by foot and take the very
short walk to Hampton Court Palace Golf Course situated on the River Thames. This is the only golf
course in Great Britain where you can play golf in the grounds of a royal palace. This unique inland
links design is a deceptively challenging test for golfers of all abilities. The course has a wide variety
of flora and fauna including a magnificent herd of 300 fallow deer and an oak tree, probably over a
thousand years old. (18 holes Par 71 5953m)
In the afternoon enjoy a meandering cruise upstream following the course of the Thames to
Shepperton. Dinner aboard.

Very Scenic and the Deer are fantastic. However the course should only be played by very
accurate golfers, 16 and below handicap as the greens are tight and the rough is impossible to
play. Big drives that slightly fade or draw can end up lost or unplayable - very frustrating. A good
test of golf but not for the casual golfer.
Tuesday
Shepperton - Runnymede: Today's golf is at the famous Walton Heath Golf Club. Famous for staging
the Ryder Cup and European Open Championships. Once owned by the News of the World, Mp's,
Lords and members of the press would be invited to Walton heath by Sir Elmsley Carr. Designed by
Herbert Fowler in 1903. (18 holes Par 72 6198m)
Afternoon cruise to Runnymede hotel where we have use of the excellent spa facilities including
swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms and beauty treatments. Dinner aboard

If this is your first visit make sure you play the OLD COURSE, not only did they play the Ryder
Cup here in 1981 but it is a real beauty, especially the first 6 holes. Get through these with a
reasonable score and you should be alright for the rest of the round. Take the first, a Par 3 over
230 yds and you get a sense of what is coming. In fact all of the Par 3`s are very long around
180 yds+. The greens are huge, plenty of old fashioned deep bunkers and pretty slick so make
sure you go on the practice green, chances are you`ll be putting from a very long distance. The
course favors accuracy but there is enough to tempt a big hitter. This course is ideal for your
single figure golfer but anyone around 18 will find it a struggle. Holes 12-14 are all Par 5`s and
everyone a gem. The 14th is downhill and you can really hit a 300+yd drive here. Finally, a nice
touch, championship tee markers behind the white tees if you want to know what it felt like in
1981.
Wednesday
Runnymede - Windsor: This morning we have an option. We can take a short drive to view the
Magna Carta memorial where King John faced the powerful barons and was made to sign the
document from which our barge takes her name. We also visit the commonwealth air force memorial,
opened by the queen to commemorate those 20000 airmen who have no known grave.
Or Optional Golf at Wentworth to be paid for by guests directly to the club. Wentworth is considered
one of Europe's finest clubs and almost needs no introduction. Famous for the PGA and World Match
Play Tournaments as well as many other events-approx cost $370 (£225) per person. (18 holes, Par 73 6142m)
Afternoon cruise through beautiful countryside to Windsor. We see Windsor Castle, built by William
the Conqueror in 1066 and inhabited for over 900 years by the Royal Family. Our mooring is on
a private island with a unique view of the Castle. Dinner aboard.
www.wentworthclub.com
The West course, which was opened in 1926 winds like a vast coiling snake through the heavily
wooded estate. Once embarked, there is no short cut back but the tightly bordered fairways
somehow heighten the drama, particularly over the closing holes.
It is then that matches are decided. The 13th, bending round trees to a green cut into the side of
a magnificent two-shotter. The 15th, once a par five, is now a beautifully shaped par four and in
the view of many of the best hole on the course.
There is likely to be a sense of false security at the drive-and-pitch on 16th but it is the last two
holes that provide the true theatre. Both are par fives, 571 and 531 yards long respectively, and
two birdies are not always sufficient, such is the strength and skill of the best players in the
world.
Thursday
Windsor - Cookham: Today's golf is at Sunningdale Golf Club, established in 1901 and ranked as one
of the top 20 courses in the world. The Old Course founded in 1901 was designed by Willie Park. It is
classic course with gorse and pine trees, silver birch, heather and immaculate turf. (18 hole Par 70
5526m)
This afternoon we leave Royal Windsor behind us we cruise past fabulous waterside homes through
the spectacular Clivedon reach and the open English countryside.
We moor in Cookham, once described as 'Heaven on Earth' by artist Stanley Spencer, one of
England's greatest and most eccentric painters. Dinner aboard.

It is pure enchantment that characterizes Sunningdale Old. Virtually every hole is played in
splendid - and beautiful - isolation, and in harmony with nature.......There is subtlety here, a
measure of drama, and a wealth of that one indispensable ingredient, pleasurable
excitement......No wonder it may be the most beloved inland course in the British Isles
All that being said, there are those who like the New Course, which opened in 1922, at least as
well. The New is perhaps a bit more rugged than the Old, a bit more masculine, if you will......
This is rich and handsome and challenging golf, Harry Colt in top form. - James W. Finegan, All
Courses Great and Small
Friday
Cookham - Henley-on-Thames: This morning we cruise to Henley on Thames, and along the famous
Henley Regatta Course. Golf this afternoon is at Temple Golf Club. This gently undulating course has
panoramic views of the Thames valley and is noted for its firm, fast greens. (18 hole Par 70 5697m)
Captains Farewell Dinner aboard
